THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE FATHER AND THE SON

A Teaching by Yoef Alvarez

In the modern religions or Churches, there are different interpretations regarding the relationship between the Father [יהוה] and the Son [Yeshua].

One interpretation, which is opposed to Scripture, says that the Father and the Son are the same person. This is inconceivable from a human point of view. A father cannot be the same person as his son.
Let us see what the Scriptures say about the relationship between the Father and the Son. In other words, are יהוה and Yahshua the same person or are they two different persons?

ETERNAL LIFE ACCORDING TO YESHUA THE MESSIAH

John 17:3
3 And this is everlasting life, that they should know You, the only true Elohim, and יהושע Messiah whom You have sent.
יהושע→ Yehoshua; Yeshua's words in purple.

Messiah teaches us that Yahweh is “the only true Elohim”; to say anything different is to contradict his teachings.

THE CREED OF THE CONGREGATION IN THE FIRST CENTURY
The word “creed” is the spiritual or religious affirmation that explains the foundation of our faith.

1 Corinthians 8:5-6
5 For even if there are so-called mighty ones, whether in heaven or on earth – as there are many mighty ones and many masters –
6 for us there is one Elohim,1 the Father, from whom all came and for whom we live, and one Master יהושע Messiah, through whom all came and through whom we live.

Anyone who reads this without trinitarian preconception will clearly see that the apostle Shaul (Paul) taught what Yeshua of Nazareth taught: that there is only one Elohim which is the Father. Shaul adds that Yeshua is our Adon (master, owner); this is because he is the Messiah named by the Father and he is the Teacher of our faith.

ARE THE FATHER AND THE SON TWO PERSONS OR ONLY ONE PERSON?

1 Timothy 2:5
5 For there is one Elohim,1 and one Mediator between Elohim and men, the Man Messiah יהושע

Shaul repeats “there is one Elohim”; and that at His side is a Mediator, who is the Messiah.
Shaul makes a clear distinction between the Person that is Elohim and the person that is the Mediator between Elohim and men.
There are three entities here:
1) Elohim [The Father]
2) the Mediator [Yeshua]
 3) men [the human race].
Moreover, this verse shows us that even after being glorified, Yeshua is a “man”.
The resurrected Yeshua himself said to his disciples

Luke 24:39
39 “See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have.”

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN יהוה AND YESHUA
Let us listen to biblical principles and not to modern theologians that have strayed from the Scriptures following the interpretations of their churches. The explanation of Scripture is basic, it was not written for geniuses or scientists, it was written for ordinary people like all of us. Everyone can understand the Scriptures if we accept them as children would.

Psalms 2:2; 11-12
2 The sovereigns of the earth take their stand, And the rulers take counsel together, Against יהוה and against His Messiah
11 Serve יהוה with fear, And rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son, lest He be enraged, And you perish in the way, For soon His wrath is to be kindled. Blessed are all those taking refuge in Him.

This prophetic Psalm talks about two persons: the Eternal on the one side and His Anointed  [Messiah or  Mashiach {Hebrew}] on the other. To confuse these two persons as if they were one is not sound doctrine rather it contradicts what the Scriptures express in clear and simple terms. Moreover, it is expressed here that the Messiah is the “Son” of יהוה . That relationship between Father and Son is spiritual. It is not that the Eternal literally begot him through a supposed “heavenly goddess” rather he [Yeshua] is the Son because יהוה produced him.

THE IMPORTANCE OF UNDERSTANDING THIS FATHER-SON RELATIONSHIP

John 20:31
31 but these have been written so that you believe that יהושע is the Messiah, the Son of Elohim,1 and that, believing, you might possess life in His Name.

This verse teaches us three basic principles:
1) That Yeshua is the Mashiach [the Messiah, the Anointed]
2) That Yeshua is the Son of Elohim
3) That if we believe this we have eternal life.

Should we believe that Yeshua is Elohim? NO
Should we believe that Yeshua is the Son of Elohim? YES
The Scriptures tell repeatedly that Yeshua is the Son of Elohim and therefore our Elder Brother, not our Elohim.

WHICH OF THE TWO IS THE ELOHIM OF ISRAEL?

Acts 3:13
13 “The Elohim of Aḇraham, and of Yitsḥaq, and of Yaʽaqoḇ, the Elohim of our fathers, esteemed His Servant יהושע, whom you delivered up and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release Him.

This single verse should be enough to resolve the matter as to who the Father and the Son are. Kepha (Peter) the apostle clearly says here that “The Elohim of Abraham” glorified “His Son Yeshua” [some versions say servant]. There are two persons in this verse.
The Eloah of Abraham clearly is יהוה . Therefore this verse can be rephrased as  ‘יהוה glorified His Son Yeshua’.

THE CREATOR OF EVERYTHING

Acts 4:24-27
24 And having heard that, they lifted up their voice to Elohim with one mind and said, “יהוה, You are Elohim, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and all that is in them,
25 who by the mouth of Your servant Dawiḏ have said, ‘Why did the gentiles rage, and the people plot in vain?
26 ‘The sovereigns of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against יהוה and against His Messiah.’
27 “For truly, in this city there were gathered together against Your set-apart Servant יהושע, whom You anointed, both Herodes and Pontius Pilate, with the gentiles and the people of Yisra’el

Clearly, Yeshua’s original disciples knew how to distinguish between him and his heavenly Father. Unlike many believers of today, the original disciples knew very well that the Supreme Ruler Yahweh is the Creator and that Yeshua is His Holy Son or Servant.
In this verse and the one before it, the Greek word for son (huios) is not used, instead, the word servant (paidos) is used.

PAUL REFERS TO THE FATHER-SON RELATIONSHIP

Romans 1:7-8
7 To all who are in Rome, beloved of Elohim, called, set-apart ones: Favour to you and peace from Elohim our Father and the Master יהושע Messiah.
8 First, I truly thank my Elohim through יהושע Messiah for you all, that your belief is spoken of in all the world.

Is Yeshua almighty? Did he resurrect himself?

Acts 2:32-33, 36
32 “Elohim has raised up this יהושע, of which we are all witnesses.
33 “Therefore, having been exalted to the right hand of Elohim, and having received from the Father the promise of the Set-apart Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.
36 “Therefore let all the house of Yisra’el know for certain that Elohim has made this יהושע, whom you impaled, both Master and Messiah.”

HOW DOES YESHUA CALL HIS FATHER AT PRESENT?

Revelation 3:12
12 “He who overcomes, I shall make him a supporting post in the Dwelling Place of My Elohim, and he shall by no means go out. And I shall write on him the Name of My Elohim and the name of the city of My Elohim, the renewed Yerushalayim, which comes down out of the heaven from My Elohim, and My renewed Name.

The glorified Messiah is speaking here. Seated at the right hand of his Father, he calls Him
my Elohim four times in this single verse. The Father, our Elohim, is also the Elohim of Yeshua and there can be only one true Elohim, therefore, it is a grave error to call Yeshua “our God” as many modern-day Christians do.
