יהוה is the Hebrew form of the Name of the Creator. According to most scholars, the most probable pronunciation of this Name is Yahweh. This site uses ‘the Eternal’ when referring to יהוה
To say that the Eternal’s titles are His names is an error and does not do justice to His role nor to His Sacred Name.
Let us analyse the titles and the name of the Eternal in an objective manner, without reference to the stereotypical concepts of Christianity or modern Judaism but rather using the ancient biblical Judaism of the ancient Hebrew people as our reference.
Being that the Eternal gave the revelation EXCLUSIVELY to the Hebrew people, the titles and the Name of the Eternal, obviously, must be in Hebrew. The translations that have been made of those titles have been adequate in some cases and inadequate in others. Let us look at them one by one.
YHWH – יהוה (THE ETERNAL) – is the unique and personal name of the Creator in the Sacred Scriptures.
Unfortunately, in some traditional versions, it has been substituted for the word ‘Lord’, which has nothing to do with the name of יהוה. ‘Lord’ was only used in recognition of the baalim (pagan gods). It is used 7,000 times in Scripture and it is the personal and distinctive name of the Eternal. The Greek scholars call it ‘Tetragrammaton’ or ‘Tetragrama’, a Greek word that means ‘composed of four letters’. It refers to the four Hebrew words Yod, Hey, Vav, Hei.
יהוה is the memorial name that the Eternal revealed to Moses at the burning bush and to all His servants since Creation. This name is a Hebrew verbal form that means ‘to be’. The name יהוה expresses the absolute permanence nature of the Eternal. In Judaism, it is considered as the name that expresses His compassion, while Elohei is the title that expresses His justice. Nobody gave Him that name rather, He chose it for Himself.
This name is also combined with other words in the Sacred Scriptures to form compound titles

ADONAI is the rabbinic substitute of the Tetragrama. They say that it is an emphatic form of the word “Adon”, which means “master” or “Lord”. They translate Adonai generally as “Lord”, however it is an error because it derives from the baalim (pagan gods) names. The Sovereign would be a more accurate translation for the word Yah.
